In a recent interview with CNBC, Jim Rogers reminds viewers to look forward when investing in the markets. An interesting fact, is the the fact that America has quintupled (5x) its debt. Currently, Jim Rogers continues to be bullish on commodities and short stocks. He also rather be invested with creditor nations such as those in Asia as opposed to creditor nation. Another interesting thing, is Jim Rogers persistence on telling individuals the opportunities in Farming as a career. We mention this because it has been an ongoing theme since the beginning of this website and there seems to be no shift towards a Farming degree.

With the news of Goldman Sachs hitting the market it was only a matter of time before someone went to the gentlemen with the bow-tie to ask Jim Rogers what he thinks about the whole fiasco. In a recent interview with CNBC, Jim Rogers replied by saying the markets are due for a correction, and almost anything could be a catalyst for that happening, such as the recent charge of fraud by the SEC toward Goldman Sachs (GS). He also said some of the bank stocks are ripe to be hammered, as a number of them have been driven up for no discernible reason.

Really the first television appearance this decade, Jim Rogers continues to be bullish on commodities. Jim is not doing nothing with oil, but still expects the black gold to go higher over the next decade due to declining reserves around the world. In addition, he still believes in ag commodities but states sugar has gone up rather quickly but yet still about 70% from all time highs. As always, Jim Rogers believes in buying the commodities themselves instead of commodity stocks. Finally, Jim continues to hold gold but would not buy at current levels. One precious metal he would buy is silver or palladium.

Agriculture Will Reap Big Profits: Jim Rogers

Jim Rogers took it to the floor of the NYSE on Wednesday October 07, 2009 to talk about commodities and gold. Despite the recent run up in commodity prices, Jim Rogers still believes we have room to go and commodities will outperform. I personally found the interview to be of great value and not being inside the studio gave the interview a different vibe.

“The fundamentals get better and better for agriculture. We have a shortage of farmers developing, much less of everything else,” Rogers said in a live interview. “Demand goes up, inventories go down, it’s the perfect storm.”

“Gold is going to go much higher over the next decade or so,” he said. “I’m not selling any gold, I wouldn’t buy it, I don’t like to buy anything at an all time high, but don’t sell your gold, it’s going to be much higher in ten years.”

On the 60th anniversary of the founding of the PRC, Jim Rogers appeared on CNBC to talk about China’s currency, its role as a creditor nation, and sectors in China that will prosper in the future. Jim also mentions that the U.S is vulnerable to hyperinflation and in disagreement with government reports, true inflation is 6-7%.

“China saved up huge reserves for a rainy day, now it’s raining and they’re spending those reserves,” Rogers said.

“You contrast that with the UK or the US for instance which has no reserves, has nothing but huge debts and they’re borrowing, or printing, or taxing to spend their money… I’d rather be in the East than in the West.”

A year after Lehman Brothers collapsed, CNBC invited Jim Rogers to give his thoughts on what has happened one year later and whether the government could have handled the situation better. Jim Rogers believes we would have been better off if we would of left those who failed fail. Also, Jim Rogers continues to hold no shorts and advices investors to learn how to short long term government bonds “as that’s where the next bubble will be”

“What (investors) should do is worry about all the debt developing in the US. They should short bonds because that’s the next bubble that’s building in the US,” he said.

“I own basically commodities where the fundamentals are getting better… I own particularly the yen and the Swiss franc. I don’t own many stocks, only in China.”
