As a Jim Rogers fan, it’s been a relatively quiet November. It has also been half year since Jim Rogers latest book A Gift To My Children: A Father’s Lessons for Life and Investing was released. Thus, I feel this interview with the Financial Times comes a bit late but nevertheless worth it considering how many people in America still lack some sort of financial education. I thought the question on what was his most spectacular gain.

“What has been your most spectacular gain?

The Quantum Fund. When we started the company in 1970, I had $600 in my pocket. Within 10 years, the portfolio had gained 4,200 per cent.”

I was honestly expecting an answer such as “We put a trillion into gold as a gold mine in Tahiti would be discovered.” But his answer could not have been better. Check out the complete interview by clicking on the link below.

Apparently there is a new Jim Rogers book in the works that will be available only in Mandarin. Asked as to why the book might not be available in English, Jim Rogers said the following;

“Well, there was a Chinese journalist who has been doing a huge study of my life it turns out, and she contacted me and said she would like to do a biography and would I agree and would I cooperate, and I said yes. That’s why it’s done in Chinese, I don’t know if it’s going to be in English or not, it’s not my book, she wrote it. It was written by a Chinese journalist for Chinese audience. It may well be in English someday, I am not translating it, I haven’t even read the book so I don’t know what it says. This is a book about me, not by me.”

President Barak Obama received further political boost three days ago when the House of Representatives approved a $3.4 trillion budget outline that endorses much of Mr Obama’s agenda. What do you think this gigantic increase will lead to? And who would benefit most from it?

It’s not good for America it’s not good for the world. It’s not going to work, they are spending a lot of money on making projects work rather than building long term competitiveness of America. America does not have that kind of money, they are going to have to borrow it, print it or tax it, none of which will be good for the American economy in the long run or for the world.

A quick reminder to our readers (22,000+ in a little over 3 months Thank You!!!) a new Jim Rogers book is due to come out on April 28,2009 and is now available for pre-order at Amazon. We have put A Gift to My Children: A Father’s Lessons for Life and Investing in our small Jim Rogers Library. The book is available for a very affordable price and is sure not to disappoint. Below is the Editorial Review from Amazon.com

He’s the swashbuckling world traveler and legendary investor who made his fortune before he was forty. Now the bestselling author of A Bull in China, Hot Commodities, and Adventure Capitalist shares a heartfelt, indispensable guide for his daughters (and all young investors) to find success and happiness. In A Gift to My Children, Jim Rogers offers advice with his trademark candor and confidence, but this time he adds paternal compassion, protectiveness, and love. Rogers reveals how to learn from his triumphs and mistakes in order to achieve a prosperous, well-lived life. For example:

• Trust your own judgment: Rogers sensed China’s true potential way back in the 1980s, at a time when most analysts were highly skeptical of its prospects for growth.
• Focus on what you like: Rogers was five when he started collecting empty bottles at baseball games instead of playing.
• Be persistent: Coming to Yale from rural Alabama, and in over his head, Rogers never stopped studying and wound up with a scholarship to Oxford.
• See the world: In 1990, Rogers traveled through six continents by motorcycle, gaining a global perspective and learning how to evaluate prospects in rapidly developing countries such as Brazil, Russia, India, and China.
• Nothing is really new: anything deemed “innovative” or “unprecedented” is usually just overhyped, as in the case of the Internet or TV, airplanes, and railroads before it
• And not a bit off the subject, and very important: Boys will need you more than you’ll need them!

Wise and warm, accessible and inspiring, A Gift to My Children is a great gift for all those just starting to invest in their futures.
